I heard about the Shade organization through my mother, who was a teacher there, during my eighth-grade year.
In 2009, four years later, I joined Shade to access tuition for accountancy and other subjects during my
second year of pre-university college, paying a nominal fee of just Rs. 1 per day. This marked the start
of my journey with Shade, where I initially managed the savings scheme for Mahila Milan accounts and
gradually became involved in overseeing the tuition center and participating in various social initiatives.
By 2012, after graduating, Shade provided me with essential resources like books and wild craft bags for
college students. I also completed a six-month computer diploma course certified by Shade, significantly
enhancing my skills and enabling me to secure a good position in the IT sector. I am now adept at
efficiently managing office tasks using Excel formulas and possess strong computer skills.
Over the past 14 years, I have committed myself to various social activities through Shade, including
evening tuition classes, computer training, and providing door-to-door services for children with disabilities.
I find immense joy in these endeavors and am dedicated to serving my community through Shade for the rest of
my life.
I am Sohan Babu, Residing at Kennedy's 6th Line, KGF, Kolar District. In 2015, I heard about Dr. Santhosh Stephen,
the Founder and Director of SHADE, for his remarkable social activities benefiting the downtrodden and physically challenged
individuals in and around KGF and Kolar villages. The SHADE committee was impressed by his
dedication to social causes, and thus, the executive members and committee decided to appoint
him as the Kolar Coordinator.

My Journey of Transformation Through Shade Organization
As a physically challenged individual who relies on crutches to walk, my path has
been one of toughness and commitment. Growing up in a poor family, access to education
was a significant challenge. Despite these hardships, I was determined to pursue my studies,
even if it meant walking nearly 10 kilometers daily to reach school.
One fateful day, Dr. Stephen noticed me walking to school and took the time to learn about my background.
He discovered the struggles I faced as a physically challenged person from a needy family. That day, he invited me
to visit the Shade organization, a decision that would change my life forever.
Upon visiting Shade, I realized that the organization was dedicated to supporting individuals like me by offering education,
computer skills, and other skill development programs. I eagerly embraced the opportunities provided and began learning
various skills that enhanced my knowledge and prepared me for a career. The support I received from Shade was instrumental
in building a strong foundation for my professional life.
Dr. Stephen's efforts did not stop at education. Understanding the challenges posed by my physical condition,
he approached the former Mayor, Sampath Raj sir, who generously arranged for me to receive two specially designed
bikes worth approximately ₹1.60 lakhs. These bikes significantly improved my mobility, allowing me to travel independently
like others.
Shade’s support extended beyond education and mobility. When the time came for my marriage, Sampath Raj sir,
with the support of Dr. Stephen, played a pivotal role in making it a reality. Today, I am happily married and a
proud parent of two children.
Even now, Shade continues to support my family. We receive essential household groceries and my children are
provided with books and study materials to aid their education. This unwavering support has been a cornerstone of our lives.

cleaner to support the family's basic needs. My father was an alcoholic who later died from
addiction to alcohol, leaving my mother as sole provider for my sister Saranya and me.
After Dr. Stephen met us and recognized our misery, he asked that we visit SHADE for
educational support and even to learn computer skills.
Since then, I have been employed by Shade Organization for the past 15 years
